Man questioned after €150,000 cannabis find

The seizure comes just days after the biggest capture by gardaí of heroin in Co Cork this year.

The heroin seizure was made in the Glanmire area last Thursday and was estimated to be worth in excess of €120,000.

In the latest capture, gardaí from the Cork City Division Drugs Squad, the North Cork Garda Divisional Drugs Squad and gardaí from the Cobh Garda District raided a house in Carrigtwohill as part of a combined operation.

Following what is described as a lengthy surveillance operation, they entered the house at Fota Rock, Carrigtwohill over the weekend.

A man and two women were in the house at the time.

The man, a Polish national, was arrested following the discovery of the cannabis. The two women were not detained.

The man was taken to Cobh Garda Station where he was detained under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act.

Under that legislation he can be held for up to seven days without charge.

Senior Garda sources described it as “another very significant breakthrough” in the fight against drug pushers in east Cork.

Three men are due to appear in Cork District court today in connection with the €120,000 seizure of heroin in Glanmire.

One of the men is from the Glanmire area, while the other two, who are originally from Dublin, have addresses in Cork.
