THE military courts system was overhauled with the introduction of a structure more in line with civilian courts.

The changes give more rights to defence staff charged under military law, including the right of appeal and, in some cases, the right to legal representation.

Under the new system, non-commissioned officers (such as sergeant major rank in the army) will for the first time be represented on the court martial boards.
