DRESSING up and eating out will be the first luxuries to be sacrificed if the recession gets a stranglehold on Irish wallets.

Nightlife, foreign holidays and gourmet groceries are next in line for a trimming if straitened finances force consumers to rein in their spending habits.

According to a survey by Red C, however, few will forego their newfound love of socialising at home with less than one in 10 forecasting they would have to cut back on wine and beer for home consumption.
