THE Financial Regulator has said it is “unreasonable” to expect consumers to provide receipts when making travel insurance claims for loss or damage to personal items.

Following an examination of insurance claims in the sector, the regulator said insurers should make their conditions for claims clearer.

The regulator found that most insurers indicate receipts or proof of purchase may be required when a claim is being made, in many cases when the value of the claim is over a certain price, typically €100.
