Fundraiser for victim in Sydney

THE Irish community in Sydney has rallied around the family of Ballyvolane-native David Keohane.

Mr Keohane is in a medically induced coma nearly a month after a violent attack in the city, with no definite prognosis as to whether he will recover.

The Mercantile Irish Bar in Sydney’s Rocks area, adjacent to the world famous opera house and Harbour Bridge, is hosting a special fundraising event next Tuesday for Mr Keohane’s family and a trust fund is also being established in his name.

His parents, Tom and Rita, and sister Carol, made an emotional public appeal earlier this month for witnesses to come forward but so far New South Wales police have not made a breakthrough in the search for David’s attackers.

While the family maintains a constant vigil by his bedside in the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, NSW Police have been analysing CCTV footage and talking to people who might have been in the area of Coogee beach in the early hours of August 2.

His parents have requested privacy and other than the public appeals have declined to talk to reporters.
