Southdoc denies scaling down of activities despite cutbacks

SOUTHDOC, the out of hours GP service, yesterday pledged there would no scaling down of its services to patients in Cork and Kerry, despite a €800,000 budget cutback.

The Irish Nurses’ Organisation (INO) had warned that a 10% slashing of the Southdoc budget would have to impact on patients.

However, Southdoc medical director Dr Gary Stack said: “There will be no diminution whatsoever in services to patients.” In recent years, Southdoc had concentrated on expansion to get as many patients as possible covered in Cork and Kerry, but the focus would now be on bringing about efficiencies, he said.
