Seven killed in weekend accidents
A 35-year-old male motorcyclist was fatally injured when he lost control of his vehicle at about 3.30pm yesterday near Tramore, Co Waterford. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital. Gardaí are investigating the incident.
A 25-year-old woman was killed in a road crash in Cork city in the early hours of yesterday morning. The driver of one of the vehicles, she was taken to Cork University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Two men — one a passenger in the dead woman’s car and the other the driver of the second car — were injured in the crash, which took place on the Commons Road at 1am. Neither of the men were seriously hurt. Gardaí at Watercourse Road are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 021 4558260.
On Saturday, a 20-year-old man was killed in a road crash in Co Limerick. The van which he was driving was involved in a collision with a sports utility vehicle on the Ballingarry to Bruff road at about 8.45pm. The female driver of the SUV was injured.
Meanwhile, gardaí have named the man who died on the roads in Co Kerry on Saturday. He was 67-year-old Gerry Cullinane from Knockrour, Scartaglen, Co Kerry.
Mr Cullinane died after he was struck by a car at Castleisland at about 7.30pm. He was brought to Tralee General Hospital where he later died.
On Friday, three men were killed in road collisions in Limerick and Cavan.
Tomasz Stelmasczczuk, 31, a native of Poland, was killed at 2.30am when the car in which he was a front-seat passenger collided with a broken-down lorry parked on the N21. The driver of the car died in hospital yesterday.
Gardaí last night named him as 31-year-old Polish national Adam Zajac, with an address in Castletroy. The incident occurred on the Rathkeale bypass at Clough.
In Co Cavan, a 91-year-old pedestrian named as Harry Gaffney of Gallonbane, Ballyjamesduff, died after being struck by a truck. He was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
