Kenny at risk of Late Late no show
Many viewers might be forgiven for thinking that PK should be heard and not seen.
After all, he has done good, as they say, on radio and comes across as serious and committed.
On TV, though, he should be committed for being seriously wooden and it looks like the reign of the nation’s No 1 TV broadcaster may be about to end.
Pat has been hosting the Late Late longer than President McAleese’s first term in office but, with just three weeks to go until the return of the show and still no renewed contract between RTÉ and the host, rumours are rife that Kenny’s time in the hot seat is up.
Sharon McHugh, spokeswoman for bookies Paddy Power said: “We still think Pat has a few years left in him but RTÉ have made a lot of changes lately and look hungry for young blood, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Pat was dethroned for a younger model.”
The cheek of her. Still, her bosses have made Ryan Tubridy, host of The Tubridy Show and Tubridy Tonight (just in case he can’t remember his own name) the 4/1 favourite to step into Pat’s shoes if negotiations break down.
But, considering predecessor Gay Byrne’s 37 years as the show’s host, he may have to wait a bit longer.
Prime Time’s Miriam O’Callaghan is put at 5/1, but Miriam, despite her cerebral attractions, has been known to have her blonde moments.
Comedian and presenter Dara Ó Briain is placed at 6/1, while Galway girl Gráinne Seoige is now at 8/1, but she may not everyone’s cup of cappuccino, particularly among Dublin 4 viewers.
So, who is it to be? How about Twink, Dana or Bunny Carr, presuming that all three are still alive?
Gaybo is tipped at 80/1 to make a comeback and Terry Wogan is at 100/1 — the same as Bertie Ahern.
There’s always Podge and Rodge at 250/1 or Colin Farrell at 500/1, for an outside bet.
