Showing it takes more than two to tango

IT TAKES two to tango but there’ll be a sensuous dance for everyone in the audience at a series of unique shows in Cork.

Internationally renowned tango dancer and head instructor of Tango Ireland, Monina Paz, is heading south for Tango Sundays.

It will feature live music and performances by professional ‘tango nuevo’ dancers who will trace the history and evolution of tango in the city’s Half Moon Theatre, which will be recreated as an Argentinian tango salon.

Then the audience will be invited to dance with the instructors.

“The audience will feel part of the tango salon,” Monina said.

She said Irish women have a strong character — perfect for the tango in which the woman surrenders to a male partner. And Irish men, with deep inner emotions, are the perfect tango dancing partners, she said.

“Tango is all about the relationship between you and your partner — it’s like a three minute conversation with your best friend.”

Monina has performed in some of the most prestigious tango houses in Argentina and has made appearances across the globe with Tango performances and tango workshops.

She has also featured in several films and theatrical performances.

Tango Sundays take place on August 24, September 7 and 21. Tickets cost €18 and can be booked on 021-427 0022.
