Spouses forced to keep secret

THE Government forced spouses desperate to remain in Ireland with their families to sign confidentiality agreements before granting them a visa, a firm of lawyers has claimed.

Kevin Brophy of Brophy Solicitors in Dublin represented several people who received deportation orders from the state despite being married to EU citizens.

He said the Government spent taxpayers’ money fighting their applications and in many cases conceded on the day of the hearing.

He said the Justice Minister should apologise to the Irish taxpayers and the unfortunate families who have been living with the threat of deportation.
