CLAIMS that single mothers are deliberately getting pregnant to secure council houses have ignited a storm of controversy.

Lone-parent advocates have responded with anger to the remarks made by Naas town councillor, Darren Scully, describing them as “nonsensical”.

Mr Scully also said that many single mothers officially living alone with just their children in local authority housing are actually co-habiting with their partners.
