U2 hotel to get €150m facelift

BONO has received approval for a €150 million remodelling of his Dublin hotel that will triple the property’s size and top it with a panoramic glass bar.

An attempt to block the Clarence Hotel expansion was turned down, An Bord Pleanála said yesterday. The hotel, in Dublin’s Temple Bar, is part-owned by Bono and the Edge.

The renovation will involve tearing down four Georgian buildings adjacent to the 177-year-old hotel, gutting the property and expanding it to 140 rooms.
