Newmarket will play host to the McAuliffe’s, many of them coming from as far away as Hawaii, Australia, Canada, Dubai, New Zealand and the USA.

The fifth McAuliffe clan rally will get underway in the town on Friday, July 18 with a parade and céilí.

The following day the organisers are planning a visit to a cave where legend has it that many years ago a daughter of a McAuliffe clan chieftain was spirited away by a banshee.

A large marquee, which is being erected in the grounds of Newmarket Development’s caravan and camping site, will be the setting for a big barbecue on the Saturday night.

Next Monday, July 14, there will be a visit to the grave of DH Allen who wrote The McAuliffes of Clanawley history book.

The current clan chieftain, John Paul McAuliffe who lives in Australia, will lay a wreath in recognition of Allen’s contribution to the McAuliffe’s.
