Cork designer’s win ‘enhances the female leg’

A young Cork designer got a major leg up in the fashion design world yesterday after winning a major competition.

Aidan Sheehan’s career is now poised to take off after he was named winner of the Gillette Venus Breeze Dress of Your Dreams winner yesterday.

Fashion students around the country had to design a show-stopping dress that enhances the female leg.

They had to incorporate the “busy but beautiful” theme while successfully creating a look that transforms from day-time chic to night-time glamour.

And they had to use the mauve Venus Breeze colour scheme as their inspiration.

Aidan, from Frankfield in Cork, designed an elegant sleeveless lavender satin cocktail dress, which took a week to design, and three weeks to make.

It has an asymmetrical neckline and a chiffon puffball skirt section over a straight satin sheath.

Aidan, who was the only man in his fashion studies class at the Cork College of Commerce and one of only two men in the final, said he was thrilled with the win.

“I really hope this award helps me on the road to becoming a successful fashion designer,” he said.

“I can’t wait to go back to Cork and celebrate with my friends and family.”

Gillette’s brand manager in Ireland, Fiachra Moloney, said the competition helps young Irish designers to showcase their talent.

“The designs perfectly enhance the beauty of the female legs and we are thrilled with the results,” he said.

Aidan, whose favourite designer is Alexander McQueen, plans to study at St Martin’s College in London next year following his competition win.
