Lifebuoy security system makes waves in Limerick

A UNIQUE security scheme to protect lifebuoys on Irish waterways was launched in Limerick yesterday.

More than 50 lifebuoys on rivers and lakes around the county have been fitted with a special electronic device which alarms the authorities if they are tampered with.

The Charleville-based water treatment company Response Group, has developed the remote text alert technology and has selected Co Limerick for testing.
