Cowen: No hasty answers or quick fixes

TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has refused to speculate on reports that Ireland would be offered additional guarantees of its sovereignty in order to resurrect the Lisbon Treaty.

Mr Cowen stressed it was “far too early yet to draw conclusions”, and said there could be “no question of hasty answers or quick fixes”.

A Financial Times report yesterday suggested that, under an emergency plan to save Lisbon, the EU would offer Ireland additional guarantees as “explanatory protocols”.
