GARDAÍ believe a fire that gutted a derelict warehouse in the centre of Cork may have been started deliberately.

Up to 30 firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control at the former Phillips warehouse on Kyrl’s Quay in the city.

Third officer Edward Buckley described the outbreak early yesterday, as “a substantial fire” and said it was probably burning for some time before the alarm was raised.
