Train drivers’ dispute likely to continue

TRAIN services between Cork, Dublin and Tralee as well as Cork suburban routes looked likely to be cancelled today as an industrial dispute — centring on one Cork-based driver’s refusal to operate a training route — intensified.

According to his union, the driver turned up for work at Kent Station yesterday expecting to carry out “piloting” duties — moving trains around the depot.

However, he was asked to drive a training route due to a driver shortage. When he refused, the man was told he was being taken off payroll.
