Jurors juggle excuses to avoid long-running case

THE Garda chopper hovering over the court building on Cork’s Washington Street warned potential jurors this was no ordinary occasion to be putting your summer on hold.

More than 100 potential jurors were summoned to the city’s Circuit Court yesterday morning and 12 were chosen to grapple with a case as onerous as has ever come to trial.

It is based on the largest drugs haul in the history of the state.
