Church ruin ruled out of bounds

A BUSINESSMAN has been warned by Limerick Co Council to cease using an old church ruin as a bus depot.

Church ruin ruled out of bounds

The council has issued an enforcement order to Michael Buckley from Ballylanders.

He has been given one month to cease using the site of the Church of Ireland ruin in the village as a bus depot and to clear away mechanical parts and restore the boundary walls and piers.

The council will issue court proceedings if the order is not complied with.

Mr Buckley said he was unaware the property, which he has owned for 30 years, was a listed building.

Michael O’Brien, enforcement officer with the council said it was a serious matter and restoration work on the site must be carried out.

Mr Buckley said the council has used the site when carrying out remedial work on local footpaths and had cement mixers located there.
