FOUR of the five members of the National Irish Safety Organisation’s (NISO) management committee have resigned in a row over attempts to reduce the size of the board.

Chief executive Pierce Martin; president George Brett; vice president Jim Jeffers and secretary Paul O’Sullivan, all quit with immediate effect after their efforts to shed board members were blocked.

Mr Martin said the work of the organisation would continue in the short term under its remaining officer, treasurer Jim Shaw, and its full-time staff, but he would not reconsider his departure unless he was allowed to make substantial changes to the way it was structured.
