Dialysis unit gets go-ahead

LIMERICK County Council yesterday granted planning permission for a kidney dialysis unit at a retail park.

Fresenius Medical Care Ltd, the world leader in renal dialysis, secured a multi-million contract from the HSE to provide a unit in Limerick which could cater for up to 60 patients.

Currently, about 20 patients from the Limerick area requiring dialysis have to travel three times a week to Galway as the renal dialysis unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital has limited capacity.
