JUNIOR mountaineer Sean McSharry may have made history by becoming the youngest European to scale Africa’s highest peak, but the plucky 10-year-old has an even tougher mountain to climb ahead — he has to go back to school tomorrow.

But after all the intense highs of his incredible adventure, his mum reckons he’ll conquer the challenge of returning to earth just as confidently as he tackled the slopes of Mountain Kilimanjaro.

Noeleen was at the airport when Sean, from Stillorgan, Co Dublin, arrived back accompanied by his fellow climbers, godfather, radio presenter and record-breaking mountaineer, Ian McKeever, from Co Wicklow, and 17-year-old Terenure College student Harry Moore. “He looked a bit thinner to me. I think they all lost weight,” said Noeleen. “But I was just glad to see him and delighted that he’s okay and in good form.”
