Paul Magee dies after short illness

Paul, a father of three children in his early 50s, was a part-time racing broadcaster with RTÉ while also having a prominent role in the world of golf.

He played soccer with Shamrock Rovers, which he joined in 1975. He was also part of an international tenpin bowling team for more than 30 years and served as both captain and manager. He was also a cross-country champion as a young man, but will probably be best remembered in football circles.

He won an All-Ireland Cup, a League Cup and an FAI Cup during his time with Rovers.

When loaned out to Finn Harps he played in Europe for them. He also played with St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers and played Leinster Senior League right up to the age of 40.
