Munster: Stand up and... log on

BORED in Bordeaux? Lonely in Llanelli? Or just plain maudlin in Munster?

Munster: Stand up and... log on

A new website aimed at passionate Munster rugby fans has been launched for occasions when one might feel as lonely as Michael reputedly did in Athenry’s lowly pastures.

Not that the Munster faithful are likely to suffer too much tedium given the team’s performance of late.

The new website — www.mymunster.com — could be described as a Bebo or Facebook for the foot-soldiers of the province’s Red Army, while it will also carry all the latest team news about Declan Kidney’s men.

The online social network for Munster rugby fans will allow supporters to create their own profile page as well as upload photos and share videos.

A key feature of the site is that registered users will be rewarded with credits for everything they do on the site. These can be used to participate in competitions. They include exclusive prizes, such as tickets for the Heineken Cup semi-final and access to Munster’s squad training sessions.

Endorsed by Munster Rugby, the website is the brainchild of Cork-based IT company, ClubW.

“It’s a facility that will connect Munster fans living throughout the world,” said ClubW’s marketing executive, Darren O’Keeffe.

Already the site has attracted more than 2,000 registered users after its launch was advertised in a recent newsletter from the Munster provincial branch.

“It’s a great response and we hope it will continue to grow as more people become aware of it,” said O’Keeffe.
