Family of boy killed in building site accident awarded €100,000

THE brother and sister of a deceased nine-year-old boy, who became a “walking fireball” after an accident at a construction site, have been awarded €100,000 in compensation.

Liability was not an issue in the case but there was a contest on a legal issue on the entitlement of the siblings to claim for nervous shock as they had not witnessed the horrific accident.

However, as the case was to go into its second day at the High Court in Cork, it emerged that the defence had made the settlement offer which the plaintiffs’ legal advisers said represented the appropriate value of the case in legal terms.
