THE Government was accused in the Dáil yesterday of forcing schools under financial pressure to break labour laws on pay for caretakers and secretaries.

Education Minister Mary Hanafin rejected the claim by Labour Party TD Ruairí Quinn that it was her responsibility if some schools were paying less than the minimum wage to these staff.

The Labour education spokesman called on the minister to significantly increase the grants to schools from which caretakers and secretaries are paid.
