Surge in trolley patients at hospital

THE number of patients awaiting admission to Galway University Hospital hit an all time high yesterday, with 40 patients lying on trolleys in the hospital’s accident and emergency department, nurses claimed yesterday.

The Irish Nurses Organisation (INO) described the situation as “an impossible and untenable development”.

The INO claimed that, at one stage, there were no available cubicles and there was no available wall space on the corridors to accommodate any more ailing patients.
