Schools book place in last 16

CASTLEKNOCK College and St Mary’s College, Carlow, became the first schools to qualify for the last 16 in the Thomas Crosbie Holdings All-Ireland Schools Quiz following last night’s sessions at the Montrose Hotel, Dublin.

In the first session Castleknock College survived a very strong challenge of Lucan Community College winning by a margin of just two marks.

The second contest was equally hard fought with the Carlow school edging out Clonkeen College Dublin on the score of 96 to 92.

Results — Quiz 171: 1 Castleknock College, 92 pts (Fintan Doherty, John Lawlor, Liam Townsend, Cormac Doherty); 2. Lucan Community College 90 pts; 3 Gonzaga College 82.

Quiz 172: 1. St. Mary’s College, Knockbeg, Carlow 96 pts (Phillip Brennan, James McDermott, Anthony Buckley, Henry Roberts); 2. Clonkeen College, Blackrock, Dublin 92 pts.

The Carlow school won the overall contest in 2006.
