Leprechauns line out to raise funds

THE fabled Limerick Leprechauns are polishing the buckles on their boots and preparing to take to the field once more.

Leprechauns line out to raise funds

On April 20 the Limerick outfit have agreed to put their 25-year unbeaten record on the line for a charity match in aid of the Mid-West Rape Crisis Centre (MWRC).

The side will take on Nenagh Ormond and board member of the MWRC Jan O’Sullivan TD said she hoped the day will be a focal point for wider fund-raising drive.

“Rugby has long been associated with the Midwest and has a huge following and I am pleased to see so many people ready to support this.”

The MWRC is facing an €80,000 shortfall in funding just to remain open. Formerly known as the Limerick Rape Crisis Centre it faces a similar challenge to victims’ support services around the country who have funding difficulties since cut-backs in 2002.

The Leprechauns are recognised as the Harlem Globetrotters of Irish rugby and club president Sonny Kiely said the match will be played in the tradition of Limerick team.
