Man required brain surgery after row in city suburb

A senior garda said the man, who is in his early 20s, complained of pains in his head on Monday evening and later lost consciousness. He was rushed to Mercy University Hospital and later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where emergency surgery was necessary to relieve pressure that had built up on his brain.

Gardaí are investigating claims the man was involved in a row on Easter Saturday, March 22. Supt Con Cadogan said gardaí believed the man hit his head off the ground during an altercation with another man in his 20s, whom he knew.
