Government offers ‘no leadership’ on implementing change

AN AMBITIOUS plan introduced three years ago to tackle obesity is not working and the Government has offered “no leadership” in implementing its 93 recommendations.

An author of yesterday’s report on childhood obesity said the National Taskforce on Obesity, published in 2005, has not gone far enough to solve the problem which is reaching “epidemic proportions”.

Nutritionist Paula Mee said: “The problem was it had 93 recommendations, it was enormous. There was no time-frames for delivering any of these recommendations. There was no leadership on the issue.”
