THE HSE has been told to ‘name and shame’ private nursing homes where elderly patients have been abused.

Members of the HSE (South) forum yesterday voted unanimously to adopt the policy after it was called for by a public representative who helped uncover abuse at Killarney Community Hospital.

New procedures were put in place at that hospital following an investigation in 2000 into claims that up to seven patients had been ill-treated. No members of staff lost their jobs.
