DPP advice may be sought over conviction

A CASE in which a jury convicted a 45-year-old Kerryman of seriously assaulting his brother could be referred back to the DPP, it was learnt yesterday.

According to legal sources, the DPP’s advice is likely to be sought in the case in which two jurors contacted the Kerry County Registrar following their unanimous guilty verdict.

The Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee heard one of the jurors did not feel the accused had been found guilty of “stabbing” as had been stated in a headline in a Kerry local newspaper.
