Opposition call for shake-up of education system

A SHAKE-UP in education was demanded by opposition leaders last night.

Labour called for a doubling of the capitation grant for primary school pupils, while Fine Gael unveiled plans for an overhaul of the university system.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said many primaries were in “crisis” due to a lack of funding.
