Plaque honours late colleague

THE fire service in Co Limerick has erected a plaque at Foynes fire station to commemorate colleague Mike Liston who died one year ago in a road incident along with Garda Brian Kelleher who was stationed in Croom.

Mr Liston’s widow inspected a guard of honour drawn from members of the county fire service prior to the unveiling.

Tributes to Mr Liston were paid by the Cathaoirleach of Limerick Co Council, Cllr Kevin Sheahan; Co Limerick chief fire officer Carmel Kirby and station officer at Foynes Michael Donnellan.

The plaque was blessed by parish priest Canon Anthony O’Keeffe.

The ceremony was attended by Mr Liston’s three daughters and son. Mr Liston was a member of the county fire service for 20 years.

Mr Liston and Garda Kelleher were killed when struck by a car while attending a car accident at Banogue, Askeaton, a year ago last Sunday.

A man is before the courts in relation to the incident.
