Gardaí probe phone link to Katy drug death
It is believed the communications may be significant in relation to the circumstances that led to the 24-year-old’s death on December 6 at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan, Co Meath.
Katy had collapsed four days earlier after consuming cocaine and possibly other substances.
Gardaí are concentrating on her movements several hours before her collapse in the Meath home of one of her friends.
The investigation team are believed to be quite satisfied they now have significant information to advance their investigation into where Katy got the drugs before her death.
Four people with addresses in Co Meath, who were arrested in connection with the model’s death last week, were freed on Thursday without charge.
A file for the Director of Public Prosecutions in connection with two young men questioned about the supply of cocaine to Katy is to be prepared by gardaí.
Gardaí said the arrests significantly advanced the investigation by filling in crucial gaps in the late model’s last hours. Gardaí believe a small number of the people Katy knew were close to one of the biggest cocaine smuggling businesses in Ireland.
The organisation is headed by a very senior criminal who traffics cocaine and heroin around the country.
Gardaí are now trying to track the model’s movements from the time she left her mother’s home in Stillorgan, Co Dublin, before midnight on December 1 and her arrival at her friend’s home in Kilmessan, Co Meath at about 1.30am.
On the day she died, Katy drove her 4x4 from her mother’s home and it is believed after several phone calls she picked up two deals of cocaine from a dealer at a garage forecourt in Meath.
Gardaí are also awaiting the results of additional toxicology tests that will confirm whether or not there were substances other than cocaine in her system.
