WHILE fighting for his political life, Minister of State Batt O’Keeffe said he received IR£10,000 from Cork-based property developer Owen O’Callaghan to help him contest the November 1992 general election.

Mr O’Keeffe said he wasn’t surprised when the businessman rang to assure him of his support as they both came from Ballincollig and both their families, who were neighbours, were on friendly terms.

His own back garden abutted the back garden of Mr O’Callaghan’s mother and father and Mr O’Callaghan’s father “often gave me, over the wall, a head of cabbage or a head of lettuce”.
