Child’s buggy left in stairwell was source of fatal fire

A CHILD’S buggy stored at the end of a stairwell used as a fire escape is believed to have been the source of a fire which claimed the lives of an African woman and her son, an inquest has heard.

Vivian Nkeiruka Oluoha, 24, who came originally from Nigeria, and her two-year-old son, Uchenna Gabriel Duruh died as a result of severe burns suffered in the fire which occurred in an apartment complex, St Nicholas House, Church Street, Dublin on February 2, 2005.

Dublin Coroner’s Court was also informed the building’s management company had contacted tenants on a number of occasions to warn them buggies should not be stored at the foot of the stairwell.
