Glamour launch for Chicago Spire

HOLLYWOOD stars Liam Neeson and his wife Natasha Richardson joined world renowned architect Santiago Calatrava in Dublin yesterday to celebrate the international launch of the Chicago Spire.

Yesterday’s official launch of this iconic 2,000ft (about 600m) building marked the start of a four-day exhibition, which opens today in the private grounds of Fitzwilliam Square in Dublin. Irish property tycoon Garrett Kelleher, chairman of Irish company Shelbourne Development, is the man behind the extraordinary architectural project.

When completed in 2011, the residential building will be the tallest structure in the world.

The international launch began in Dublin yesterday with swing, jazz and blues entertainment from acclaimed violinist Zoe Conway and saxophone player Joolz Gianna along with Dave Hardy and the Blue Clavon Orchestra.

The Chicago Spire, a twisting tower of 150 floors, will boast 1,200 of the most unique and modern residences imaginable. Prices start at €504,000 for studio apartments, with the most expensive penthouse on offer for €27 million. A three-floor, 52,000sq ft (about 4,830sq m) amenity space will include temperature-controlled wine lockers, private retail facilities and a business centre.

“The Chicago Spire is a special building,” said Mr Kelleher. “Our world-class team is creating what will not only become a spectacular home for its residents, but a dramatic new contribution to Chicago’s skyline.”

Since its September 2007 unveiling, more than 600 potential buyers across the US have expressed interest.
