No cocaine link in teen’s death

GARDAÍ investigating the sudden death of a 15-year-old boy have not yet found any evidence he died from cocaine, it emerged yesterday.

Contrary to some media reports that Danny Crilly died from taking cocaine, gardaí said no traces of cocaine were found at the scene and there was no information suggesting the youth consumed the drug.

The youth died at a friend’s house in Marigold Avenue in Darndale, north Dublin, last Sunday.

It is understood an amount of alcohol was consumed by the youth and his friends that night.

Gardaí were called to the scene after Danny became ill.

It is understood a small amount of heroin was found in the house, but it is not known if there is a link between the heroin and the youth’s death.

Gardaí will investigate if alcohol or some other substance contributed to the death, but said only toxicological tests will confirm the presence or otherwise of drugs. This will take several weeks, even months. Gardaí pointed out that the youth could have died from natural causes.

A Garda spokeswoman said yesterday that foul play was not suspected.
