Storms strike seaboard homes

THOUSANDS of homes along the south-western seaboard were left without power yesterday as storms battered the country.

A severe lightning storm swept in off the Atlantic just after lunchtime and struck several power lines supplying power to homes along the west Cork coast and parts of Kerry.

Thousands of homes in the Dunmanway and Bantry areas were worst affected and were left without power for several hours.
