Household tips for new year savings

HOUSEHOLDERS could save hundreds of euro a year simply by checking the accuracy of their bills, cooking their own food and hanging out their washing in summer.

Families can also save money by sharing a household bin with their neighbour, searching online for the best deals and replacing just one household light-bulb with an energy-saving one.

The Irish Examiner asked a random selection of homemakers and workers for the best money-saving tips they would recommend to others to keep the household budget in check.
