Originally from the village of Donore in Co Meath, 29-year-old Darren McKeown was found on a footpath in the Rowan Heights estate in Drogheda after apparently being viciously assaulted.
The 17- and 15-year-old youths were arrested yesterday morning, while a third, aged 16, was arrested yesterday afternoon. All are male and natives of Drogheda.
Gardaí in Drogheda are leading the investigation and have set up an incident room. A team of detectives yesterday continued with house-to-house inquiries and focused on piecing together the movements of Mr McKeown.
It is believed he had been attending a party that had gone on for up to two days in a house on the estate.
The ambulance service was called to give assistance to him at 3am on St Stephen’s Day and he was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
That evening gardaí arrested a 23-year-old woman but she was later released without charge and a file will be sent to the DPP.
Chief Superintendent Pat McGee of Louth/Meath division yesterday issued an appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything to contact gardaí on 041 9874200.
It is understood gardaí are particularly interested in talking to taxi or hackney drivers who did runs into the estate, off the sprawling Marley’s Lane, between midnight on Christmas Day and 6am on St Stephen’s Day.
