Crime helpline calls double to 2,000

ALMOST 2,000 calls were made to the crime victims’ helpline this year, figures have revealed.

The helpline responded to about 3,000 calls since it was established in November 2005. The doubling of calls in 2007 is attributed to an increased public awareness of the helpline.

The helpline (1850 211407) will be open over the new year to assist people who have been affected by crime, either during Christmas or at some other time during the year.
