Government U-turn on childcare centre funding

THE Government has made a last-minute U-turn to a system for funding childcare centres, after widespread criticism of the original plan.

The Community Childcare Subvention Scheme is due to begin on January 1.

An emergency meeting by childcare providers last week heard that the scheme could lead to a doubling of childcare costs for some parents.
