Age Action: Pension increases not enough

PENSION increases in the budget are not enough to insulate many older people from rising food and fuel prices, Age Action has warned.

Any increase was welcome, but pensioners will only get an extra €2 or €3 a week when inflation is taken into account, according to the organisation.

Age Action chief executive Robin Webster said the Government’s commitment to increasing the State pension to at least €300 per week by 2012 could equate to a €20 increase a year.
