Waterbus skipper fined €400 for overcrowding

THE skipper of a waterbus in which thousands of tourists take sightseeing trips on Killarney Lakes would not have been able to cope with an emergency on the day of an inspection, a court heard yesterday.

Pádraig O’Donoghue, of Killarney Watercruises Ltd, Old Weir Lodge, Muckross Road, was fined €400 for allowing the vessel to be overcrowded on August 22, 2006.

He pleaded guilty to allowing the MV Lily of Killarney into waters in such an unseaworthy state that the lives of persons aboard were endangered.
