€70m road to cut transit time from Cork to Dublin

WORK has begun on a €70 million dual carriageway which will cut the journey time between Cork and Dublin by at least 10 minutes.

The 16km road, which will be built to motorway standard, will connect the Fermoy motorway with the N8 just south of Kilbehenny.

It is hoped it will be open by the spring of 2009, in the process providing a second bypass of Mitchelstown, but this time to its east.
