Rise in employment figures fuelled by immigration

THE number of people in work is rising and has topped 2.14 million for the first time.

Between July and September the amount of men and women in employment rose 67,600, or 3.3%, on the previous three months.

But economists yesterday cautioned that the rate of increase had been 3.9% in the three months before.
